Life, Lab and Stuff

St Teilo's - "the Lab House"

With the new year well under way I thought it was about time I threw out a bit of a life update. As I’m writing its a beautiful sunny, Spring-esque day outside the Lab house – an awesome day for my housemate Dan’s birthday. We had a party on Wednesday and are having a bit of a dinner party tonight to celebrate.

As always there’s so much going on at the moment – so many experiments and little projects, as well as developing ones – and that’s what I love about pioneering and working for The Lab: everything’s changing and growing and developing all the time.

So I thought I’d try and through out some quick bullet points of the different things that are going on for me.

  1. I’m pretty much halfway through my degree. I have a mid-term assessment coming up for my fieldwork so far this year, as well as an alternative placement to fit in over the next few months alongside my work with The Lab. We also just started a module on Culture, Society and Mission – which is awesome fun.
  2. Last week a few guys from my course came up to hang out and check out our weekly Lab meal – which was great fun. College right now is a real creative hotbed – and especially getting to share ideas and collaborate with so many other brilliant people is amazing.
  3. With 2009 suddenly upon us, we’re starting to work through plans for the Lab house next year – suddenly people are beginning to seriously think about what they’re doing next year. It’ll be pretty exciting as this develops.
  4. We just started an experiment with “community practices” for the Lab. The idea is to intentionally do two things to bless/give to others each week – one inside our group, one outside. Then each week we share our stories with each other. The potential for this to transform is incredible – but so far it’s early days.
  5. A week Sunday I get my second go at sermonizing at St Paul’s - since Justin, my boss and the vicar, is away. My first talk was great fun, so I’m excited to get another chance so soon. The subject is “Intimacy in Worship”, which is pretty challenging – so if anyone has any thoughts…

Hope the mid-year fieldwork assessment goes well. What are you doing for your alternative placement?

Number four sounds really simple, but also really exciting. Keep us updated on how it goes.
